John Peloquin served on the Habitat Iowa AmeriCorps Mobile Response Team (MRT) for a 9- month term as a construction member. As part of the AmeriCorps MRT, John learned construction skills while also participating in disaster deployments. He traveled to New Jersey for hurricane assistance, Madison County, Iowa to operate a volunteer reception center after a tornado and helped out with Iowa derecho repairs in the Cedar Rapids area. John was called to service because he wanted to earn money and experience for graduate schools. Now that his gap year is done, John will be attending graduate school in Chicago this fall.


What do you enjoy most about serving with Habitat?

Helping out my community...every day is different, and that is part of what I like about it.... and learning new methods and techniques to do things
