Serving allows me to provide help to others- Abbey's Spotlight

Abbey Stohs is just finishing up a 3-month AmeriCorps term with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity as a Volunteer Engagement AmeriCorps member. Abbey is taking advantage of her summer break between semesters to serve her home community. As a volunteer engagement member, she recruits, manages, trains, and celebrates volunteers who serve at Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. If you are interested in current open positions, Greater Des Moines is currently seeking Fall 2022 AmeriCorps members just like Abbey. (Learn more here.)

What inspired you to serve? As a nursing student I love helping others. Serving allows me to provide help to others.

What do you enjoy most about serving? Being able to participate in different activity, connecting with the community, and seeing the impact on the families.

What does your typical day look like?

Typically, W-F I will start my day with a meet & greet checking volunteers in and providing them information about Habitat. Then I work on other tasks such as entering waivers, setting up volunteer shifts, and making sure the volunteers are all set up.

What do you like most about your Habitat for Humanity? The environment.
