AmeriCorps VISTA Spotlight: Andre LaFontant

Andre indicated one thing he enjoyed about this opportunity is that there are no typical days.

Andre Lafontant is serving as a VISTA member for our Mobile Response Team. Andre indicated one thing he enjoyed about this opportunity is that there are no typical days. One day he is interviewing homeowners about their experiences and the next he could be writing grants to secure funding for future projects. He said he has learned about the framework of what makes great grant writing. I hope to hone in on that skill set in order to bring value to Habitat for Humanity from that point of view.

He sends cards to donors and volunteers thanking them for their commitment to Habitat’s mission. Andre said he has been given the tools to make meaningful change in the community and learn the inner-workings of how non profits accomplish that change. To quote Andre “ Specifically, Marshalltown’s Disaster Recovery Project touched my heart, having had my life affected by natural disaster in a significant way. I want to weaponize the tools I’m given during my service in order to help others bypass the similar hardships I experienced due to natural disasters."
